History

TÜBİTAK Bursa Test and Analysis Laboratory (TÜBİTAK BUTAL) was established in Bursa on November 1, 1972 by Sümerbank under the name of "Textile Training and Research Center-TTEAM". This center, which focused on the textile sector, gained the status of an Enterprise in 1983. The title of the Institution was changed to "Sümerbank Research, Development and Training Institution-SAGEM" on November 7, 1985.

Within the scope of Turkey's privatization process, SAGEM was transferred to TUBITAK on January 19, 1996 in accordance with the decision of the Privatization High Council of the Prime Ministry within the scope of Turkey's privatization process and continued its activities within the TUBITAK Marmara Research Center Textile, Finishing and Apparel Clean Technologies Institute since April 1996. On October 16, 1999, the name of the Institute was changed to "Textile Institute" and SAGEM was renamed as "Textile Research Laboratory-TEAL".

On February 24, 2001, TEAL was directly affiliated to the Presidency of TÜBİTAK and entered a new era as "TÜBİTAK Bursa Test and Analysis Laboratory (BUTAL)". Under the administrative and financial supervision of TÜBİTAK, BUTAL operates in Bursa, an industrial powerhouse in Turkey. However, it provides services not only in Bursa, but also across the country and internationally.
